OLTOA, LLC was founded in 2006 by Bob Myron.

Bob has over 30 years of experience in outdoor recreation including over 20 years as an outdoor educator. His past experiences include owning and operating his own retail/guide business in northern Maine, lead paddlesport instructor for L.L. Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools, and teaching courses in colleges and universities.

He took special interest in everything that might enhance his abilities as a teacher and adapting those skills and theories into outdoor education programs.

Recognizing that it can be difficult for outdoor leaders to find adequate training and resources, he became convinced of the need for Outdoor Leadership Education. OLTOA was born. We started with the belief that resources for outdoor leaders should be accessible, offered in a supportive and positive learning environment, kept up-to-date on industry practices, and include instruction in teaching and leadership skills, in addition to “hard skills”. We also wanted to create a place to find those “a- ha!” tips for questions like:

• How do you teach paddling effectively to children and keep them engaged?


• What’s the best set-up for larger groups on the water? On the trail?


• Is there a quick and easy way to teach map and compass skills to beginners?


• What certifications or endorsements do I really need? Where do I get them?


• If there is a lost person, what’s the best thing to do with the rest of the group while I search?

Today, OLTOA works with a broad range of people, schools and companies to provide quality instruction for Outdoor Leaders. From individual certification courses, guided trips, or customized staff training for camps or other organizations, we can help you find answers to your Outdoor Leader training needs.
