Eric Nathanson
Eric grew up in Maine where he spent many summer days playing king of the hill on top of a capsized canoe. He was first exposed to wilderness canoe travel and sea kayaking through a high school program and has been in love with both activities ever since.
In college he was introduced to whitewater kayaking and surfing and quickly folded those activities into his repertoire as well. After completing his degree Eric conducted a source to sea, entirely human powered expedition of the Mississippi River,
from Lake Itasca Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico, using both canoes and rowboats.
Today, Eric is a Maine Guide in both the recreation and sea kayak categories, and an ACA certified instructor in sea kayaking (level 4) and surf kayaking (level 3). Prior to working as a commercial guide and instructor he worked in outdoor and environmental education across a variety of age groups.
His favorite things to do in a boat are play in the surf, and find remote campsites. He also hosts the East End Race Series and competes in multiple paddle sport races around New England in various disciplines.
His favorite things to teach include rescue and navigation skills to help new paddlers develop independence, and surf paddling and river reading skills to promote a fun and joyful relationship with rough water.
When not paddling Eric fills his time with guitar, reading, writing, board games, historical reenactment sword fighting, other outdoor adventure pursuits, and finding a good song to boogie to (and probably sing along).
